VALENTINES IS HERE: WHAT TO DO?

  11 February 2018

The month of love is here. Time to reaffirm your love to your significant other. Chocolates, flowers, gifts and all that sweet stuff are about to sell out this week. To the people expecting something this week, good luck. To the rest of the single people, it is time to show some self-love. Don’t be sad this week. Think of sad as an acronym of a greater meaning. SAD therefore should mean Single Awareness Day.

Here are some things to do on that day:

Celebrate your friends:

Think of Finland where instead of celebrating their loved ones, it’s a day to celebrate your friends. Reach out to your close friends, get together and organize a cook out, go out for dinner and bond. The conversation among friends is usually one of the most sincere, raw and hilarious.

Celebrate it on a different day:

You will realize that the next day after Valentines, suddenly restaurants become less crowded. This is because the buzz is usually on the material day. The restaurants are usually full of color and couples which can get noisy and chaotic. You end up shouting for you to be heard, randomly start staring at other couples as you wait for your food. The best way to beat this is to take your significant other a day or two after valentines and you will get to enjoy the intimacy of a quiet dinner with less people and two or more waiters at your beck and call.

Watch Football

The beautiful people at UEFA decided to be so kind and give us beautiful matches on Valentines Week. The Champions League resumes this week and it promises to be scintillating. Start it off on Tuesday as Juventus take off Tottenham who are in terrific form. All eyes on Harry Kane who continues to score in almost every game. The league leaders, Manchester City take on FC Basel who thumped Manchester United a few years back. With Sergio Kun Aguero who is in top form, there is no stopping them.

Then on Valentines night, continue the fun as 2004 winners FC Porto take on 2005 winners Liverpool while current champions, Real Madrid  take on PSG in what promises to be a showdown of the campaign.

With all these matches, Valentines should not matter to you. Red is a primary color that’s all. The only thing looking forward to is that beautiful opera singing during the start of the Champions League.

Do Nothing.

Majority of students also fall in this category. Don’t beat yourself up. Its perfectly normal. Wake up, take shower, have breakfast and go to school. You might receive an occasional box of chocolate or a flower. Don’t lose sight. Focus. You have sh**t to do.

Attend Valentines Dinner at the BOMA Hotel

The Student Affairs Council in conjunction with the BOMA hotel have organized for a Valentines diner on the 15th of this month. The ambience of the venue is perfect for the occasion. Soulful music, wine, red carpet and a full course meal should be in order.
