Its campaign season folks and what a better way than to bring you the top contenders. They call themselves ‘Team Legacy’. This is an ensemble of young, brave and astute individuals who have joined hands to get into SAC Office. Take a seat and read through their profiles and be the judge come election day!

He is a seasoned student leader having served previously in the Student Affairs Council. He is the Vice Chair of Usiu Radio and the Chair of Journalism Club. He is brilliant with a camera and video as well. Graphic Design and Public Relations are also his forte. He articulates himself eloquently and does not mince his words. His laughter is hearty and infectious to all his peers.  In other quarters he is known as ‘Sam Kanono’. Here’s  his brief profile;

Name : Samuel Njuguna Makau

 Age : 25

Major: Journalism (double concentration on Public Relations and Production)

Year of Study: Junior

Singing, Video production and hosting on Radio

Position vying for: Chairperson

Because of the experience that I have had as SAC Secretary, Journalism club chair and Vice head of radio I believe that I can harness it to better help all factions of the Student Affairs Council to achieve their potential.

What are you planning to change?

It is not enough to have some of the best facilities in Kenya while vastly underutilizing them for the simple fact that Usiu-Africa is not as united as it should be. I want to foster that relationship between SAC, Clubs, SPAC (sports) and DRAB (Hostels). I want the Student Affairs Council to live and not to survive.

What makes you stand out from the rest?

I do not consider myself unique, I however find myself fortunate to be in this unique situation. I love serving people, I love being able to help people achieve their full potential, dreams goals and ambitions even if it is as small as showing a freshman where they can buy a pencil for their placement exams. My people: The Usiu-Africa family, my country, my continent and the world is in dire need of the amazing personalities, talents and leaders that are in this institution.

She is a young, ambitious, goal oriented and hands on person. She loves to live every minute of life and believes in giving her best in every chance she gets.

What are you planning to change?

Unlike all the SAC Senates before that have focused on changing the policies, ‘Team legacy’ with myself included want to focus on changing the relationship of the SAC senate with the students. This is by using platforms that are entirely student based such as club, committees and sports to reach to the students.

What makes you unique?

I am a very open minded person and easy to interact with. So feel free with me!

I believe that clubs are an integral part of the academic system and not only do they increase a person’s credibility but they also help them develop life skills such as discipline, goal setting, teamwork, accountability and responsibility.

What do you plan to change?

One of the things that I would want to look into is the Clubs budget.

I would like to assist clubs to have more activities for the past two years clubs have not properly utilize the money in their accounts.

What makes you stand out from the rest?

I consider myself as an approachable person to come to and talk about anything, not necessarily work-based. I have a good sense of humor which helps me interact with students more effectively and befriending them at a faster rate. I promise to use all the skills that I possess to help my fellow students and solve the problems they are facing.

She is a hardworking, ambitious yet very  lively and approachable person whose life's intent is to do the best in every situation and to maximize the limits it can allow..

Here’s her brief profile:

 Name; Daphne Mukami Karani

Major: International Business Administration

Position vying for: Treasurer

I have the capability to efficiently manage and account for our money as students, allocate it fairly and transparently amongst every student related activity.

What are you planning to change?

After talking to some club treasurers and students I came to find out that the unanimous problem lies around; one; availability of the treasury to help students and club treasurers solve any issues with regards to requisitions so as to receive funds in time and two;, of course open and transparency of the same so as to properly understand what goes on with the finances.. Of course the details of allocation of resources are key but I also stress on involving every relevant treasurer in my decision making process so as to ease communication.

What makes you unique?

Honestly I believe that I have both sides of the coin where I am always open to positive criticism, discuss problems and solutions with my fellow players, follow policy but still push back where I am needed to stand ground.

Hobbies: Doing calculations, chanting and reading.

Position vying for:  Chandaria School of Business Representative.

I have been exposed to a lot of opportunities and I want to help continue with the legacy of an institution that if used wisely will produce amazingly all rounded students.

What do you plan to change?

The current and the previous representatives have done a good job in making sure that there are ample opportunities for business oriented students.  I intend to push for more business oriented events, competitions, challenges, research and incubation programs that will help students develop their own business opportunities and financial investments.

There is also a need to grow the tourism, hotel and restaurant management program presenting them with better opportunities and trips that will ensure that we produce top of the line students.

What makes you unique?

I have been in previous institutions prior to coming to Usiu-Africa and I have been exposed to clubs committees and SAC operations. This means that I have been exposed to a lot situations and various ways of supporting and enabling the student and clubs under the Chandaria School of Business umbrella.

Well, Ladies and Gentleman this is the team. Vote come election day!
